Shikshak or Copilot? A note on the name, and what else to expect on the phone

The app on your phone says VIDYA Shikshak. This website says VIDYA Copilot. They are the same teacher app. What else may look different from the website, and why.

The situation

You read about VIDYA Copilot, ask for access, install the app, and the icon says VIDYA Shikshak. That is not a mistake and not a different product.

Why two names

The teacher app is currently called VIDYA Shikshak on the phone. This website calls the same product VIDYA Copilot. Pictures of the app may still show Shikshak until the app and website use one name.

From the market-facing side of the company, which CMO Zeeshan Khan is responsible for, the choice reflects how the product is explained to teachers and schools: a helping hand that works alongside the teacher, with the teacher making the final decision. The brand line is exactly that: A helping hand for teachers. You make the final decision.

Not the student app

VIDYA AI is a separate app for students, with its own website. The student app looks in the books available to it. The regular teacher app does not search your textbook; it answers from what its AI has learned and says so on every reply. If you are comparing the two, that is the difference that matters most.

Two screen designs

A new home-screen design is being tested. It includes a greeting, class and subject choices, starter questions, a large microphone and clearer status messages. Tapping a suggested question puts it in the box; nothing is sent until you choose to send it.

The version you install may show the regular design or the new one. Ask which design is included in the version you try, and do not plan a staffroom demonstration around screenshots from the other one.

What will look the same

Whichever name and design you see, the features available now are the same: typed or spoken questions, a choice to hear replies aloud and stop them, quiet mode, Hindi, Marathi and English reply settings, a teacher profile saved on the phone, the memory warning, and one question at a time.

What will not be there

No textbook-grounded replies, no suggested marks, no handwritten-paper reading, no class study reports. These are built and off, or planned. The features and what’s next pages keep the lists current as of 6 October 2026.

Takeaway

Shikshak on the phone, Copilot on the website, one teacher app. If anything else on the phone looks different from this website, ask before assuming. The questions and answers page covers the name, the student app and the two designs.
