Questions and answers
Questions to ask before you try it.
Short answers on the name, voice, internet, reply checking, marking, phones and getting the app.
The product and its name
What is VIDYA Copilot?
It is an Android assistant for teachers' questions about school topics. You can ask by typing or voice, then read the reply or hear it aloud.
Why does the app say VIDYA Shikshak?
The teacher app is currently called VIDYA Shikshak. This website calls the same product VIDYA Copilot. You may still see Shikshak when you open the app.
Is this the same as the VIDYA AI student app?
No. This website is for the teacher app. VIDYA AI is a separate app for students. The student app looks in the books available to it. The regular teacher app uses what its AI has learned and does not search your textbook.
Who is it for?
It is for Indian school teachers, especially those teaching Classes 6–8, and schools interested in trying it with teachers. Check the exact topics you need first.
Answers, languages and internet
Does it answer from my textbook?
Not in the regular teacher app. The feature that uses textbook facts is turned off. Replies use what the AI has learned, and the app reminds you to check them.
Can I use Hindi, Marathi or English?
Yes. You can choose Hindi, Marathi or English. “Match the question” asks the app to reply in the language of your question. It may still use the wrong language or give an unclear reply. Marathi needs more work.
Does it need internet?
The app writes answers on the phone and cannot connect to internet itself. Voice uses the phone's separate tools. They may need internet, depending on the phone and its language files.
Will voice work without internet?
That depends on your phone and the language files saved on it. Try voice with internet turned off before relying on it.
Can I switch speech off?
Yes. Turn “Speak replies aloud” off for quiet reading.
Can I interrupt a spoken reply?
Yes. Use the stop control while the reply is speaking.
Does it remember my earlier question?
It treats each question as a new one. Add the details it needs each time, even if you already mentioned them earlier.
Are replies always correct?
No. Replies can be incorrect, unclear or hard to make sense of. Review important content against your textbooks and teaching notes before classroom use.
Does it always answer in under a second?
Not always. In one test, with the app ready to answer, speech began about 434 milliseconds after the question was sent. Other phones and questions may take longer. This did not include the time taken to listen to the question.
Marking and reports
Can it mark answer papers?
The marking tool has been built for testing, but it is turned off in the regular app. It is not reliable enough yet, so you cannot use it for everyday marking.
Can it read handwritten answers?
Not yet. Tests of reading handwritten papers without internet were not good enough, so this feature is not available.
Will AI decide a student's final marks?
The tool being developed is intended to provide suggestions, with the teacher making the final decision. That workflow is turned off in the regular app today.
Does it provide class study reports or a school information page?
A ready-to-use page showing class study reports is not available in the current app. These reports are planned for the future.
Phones, price and access
Does it work on every inexpensive phone?
We cannot promise that yet. Testing on low-cost phones is not complete. Check the phone you plan to use.
Is there an iPhone version?
An iPhone version is not confirmed in the supplied information. The current app is for Android.
Is it free?
The supplied file does not confirm that teacher use is free. Prices have not been announced. Ask how to get the app and whether any charges apply.
Where can I download it?
It is not yet on the Play Store. Contact us about setup and whether the current version can help with the topics you teach.
Can our school arrange a trial?
Yes, you can ask about a small trial. We first need to discuss the topics, phones and how teachers will check the replies. A trial may not be available straight away.
Next step
Have a question about your subject, language or phone?
Tell us what you teach and which phone you use. We will answer with what the current version can and cannot do.
Opens your email app. Review the message before sending. Sending a message does not mean you will get the app immediately or by a fixed date.
